SEN - Lunch and Break Times
A lunchtime club is available for those children who find socialising on the playground with other children challenging. The club is run by two adults who are fully trained in nurture and pastoral care. During these sessions, the children learn essential social skills, which will equip them when they return to the playground environment. Some children also take advantage of the library during lunchtimes. The playground is well staffed by teaching assistants and lunchtime supervisors at break times and lunchtime. All staff are well trained and have a good understanding of children’s needs. Staff run a variety of activities at lunchtimes and are skilled in adapting these sessions to meet the needs of children with SEND.
The playground contains a number of different areas to suit children with different needs. As explained in the accessibility section, all of these areas are connected via ramps, so are fully accessible. The playground features a number of large tarmacked areas and an outdoor classroom for those who wish to spend their break times more quietly. The playground also features an outdoors gymnasium, which is ideal for helping to develop gross motor skills and for children with ADHD and similar difficulties, providing them with an area to burn energy, in a safe environment.
All food provided at lunchtimes is cooked on site by a team of skilled catering staff. The school consistently scores extremely high hygiene ratings. The staff are able to cater for a wide range of dietary conditions.
